Linda L. Leech Ph.D., LPC-S, CRC, Assistant Professor, Program Director

Dr. Leech completed her Ph.D. in Counselor Education at Ohio University in 1998 following the completion of a masters degree with an emphasis in rural rehabilitation counseling.  She has more than twenty-five years experience working with individuals of all ages with physical, cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities.  Past responsibilities included clinical counseling, program development, direct client service, and administration.  Her undergraduate education included nursing, child development, education, and social work, providing a uniquely relevant background for a career in rehabilitation counseling.  Dr. Leech has also worked as an interpreter and teacher of American Sign Language and has been a foster parent for hard to place children and adolescents.  Prior to coming to the University of South Carolina, she was a therapist in a private practice in Ohio. 

Dr. Leech's special areas of interest include psychiatric disability and rehabilitation, assessment, counselor education, and theories and techniques of counseling.  She currently teaches masters' level courses in rehabilitation counseling including Medical Aspects of Disability, Rehabilitation Assessment, and a number of electives in mental health in addition to courses in the Certificate of Graduate Study in Psychiatric Rehabilitation.   She has spearheaded the development of rehabilitation counseling program's coursework for online distance education presentation.

 

Rob Froehlich Ed. D., CRC, Assistant Professor

Dr. Froehlich received his Ed.D. in Counseling (emphasis in rehabilitation leadership) from George Washington University in 1999.  He received an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Scranton.  Previously he taught in the Rehabilitation Counseling Programs at the George Washington University and at Coppin State University.  Prior to joining the USC faculty, Dr. Froehlich provided rehabilitation services and conducted research for Brain Injury Services of Fairfax, Va.  He has held clinical, research, and administrative positions in community mental health, private rehabilitation (both non-profit and for-profit), and state vocational rehabilitation programs. 

Dr. Froehlich teaches courses in the masters program including Introduction to Research and Career Development in addition to Vocational Implications of Psychiatric Disability.  His research interests include ethics in counseling, brain injury rehabilitation, and rehabilitation counselor training issues.

 

John M Holcomb MRC, CRC

Mr. Holcomb received his masters in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Carolina in 2001.  John has over ten years experience in psychiatric rehabilitation as a case manager and clinical counselor.  Prior to his employment in mental health, he worked extensively with children with special needs specializing in children with severe behavioral problems.  Throughout his masters program, he served as Graduate Assistant assisting in the development of all psychiatric rehabilitation coursework for online presentation. 

Mr. Holcomb teaches courses in the Certificate of Graduate Study in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program and assists Dr. Leech in online instruction in clinical coursework.
