my mom worked; my dad was the home parent. i always perceived my mom as moody, but neither parent ever discussed their adult concerns w/ me. when my dad knew my mom was having a low, he would flash four fingers in the air: it was our sign. consequently, it took me a long time to comprehend the seriousness of my mom's depression - i basically discovered it when she turned to me as her support system, and he emotionally disappeared from both our lives. a year later, i went off to college.
