If and when my mother was feeling depressed we all knew, because she would just lay on the couch. She wouldn't talk or respond to myself or my brother when we came into the room. She would just lay on the couch with her eyes closed. She'd stay like that for a week or so. Sometimes even a month. This happened throughout my childhood and adolescence.
