To recap our previous class, Schizophrenia is a thought disorder, where there is a disturbance in thought patterns and processes. People with Schizophrenia usually have several of the following symptoms: disconnected and confusing language, poor reasoning, memory and judgement, high level anxiety, eating and sleeping disorders, hallucinations-hearing and seeing things that only exist in the mind of the person with Schizophrenia, delusions-persistent false beliefs, that others are controlling their thoughts, and deterioration of appearance and personal hygiene, and a tendency to withdraw. This illness is due to a biochemical disturbance of the brain. There is a stigma associated with Schizophrenia. People usually shy away from things or people they don't understand. As our two guest speakers told us, they don't have many friends and they are lonely.
